Stubborn belly fat, loose skin and cellulite: non-surgical fat reduction in Barcelona

Why stubborn belly fat, loose skin and cellulite show up together, and how to work on all three without surgery.
Soin de la graisse localisée sans chirurgie pour femmes et hommes au centre REDUCTIVA d'Angers

If you exercise, eat well and some areas still won’t change, you are not doing anything wrong. Stubborn fat, loose skin, cellulite and lower muscle tone tend to show up together, in the same places, and they don’t respond to effort in the same way. REDUCTIVA offers non-surgical fat reduction that works on all of them in one 45-minute session, combining radiofrequency, neurostimulation and Bioactive Therapy.
No surgery, no needles and no recovery time, at our centres in Barcelona and Sant Cugat, with a team that speaks English and several other languages.

Why won’t my belly fat go away?

Not all fat behaves the same way. Fat cells in different parts of the body respond differently to the signals your body uses to release stored fat. Fat just under the skin releases it more slowly than visceral fat, the fat around your organs, partly because the alpha-2 receptors that slow this process are more active there. Within the fat under the skin, fat on the buttocks and thighs is the hardest to mobilise, followed by fat on the abdomen (Arner, Annals of Medicine, 1995). The difference between areas is more marked in women than in men (Wahrenberg et al., Journal of Clinical Investigation, 1989).

That is why the scale can go down while some areas stay exactly the same. It is not a lack of effort. It is how this tissue works.

Is it fat or loose skin on my stomach?

Often it is both. Fat feels like soft volume under the skin. Loose skin is skin that has lost firmness, so it folds, creases or hangs, often after weight loss or pregnancy. On the abdomen, fat, skin and muscle tend to change at the same time, which is why sit-ups alone rarely change how the area looks. In a controlled trial, six weeks of abdominal exercises improved muscular endurance but did not reduce abdominal fat (Vispute et al., Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2011).

Can sagging skin be firm again?

Skin firmness depends on collagen and elastin, and both decline with age and after big changes in weight. Radiofrequency is one of the most widely used non-surgical ways to work on firmness, and in a REDUCTIVA session it works alongside the other two technologies. Read more in our guide to skin tightening after 40.

Why does my stomach look pregnant after menopause?

With menopause, fat tends to move towards the middle of the body while muscle mass declines. A 2026 study of 325 women found that postmenopausal women had less muscle mass than premenopausal women in every weight category, and more visceral fat among women of normal weight and those who were overweight (Szeliga et al., Journal of Clinical Medicine, 2026).

Habits still matter at this stage, and our guide to menopause weight loss covers the ones that help. When the abdomen still won’t change, working on fat, skin and muscle together makes particular sense.

How do I flatten my postpartum belly?

After pregnancy, the abdomen usually changes in three ways at once: more fat in the area, stretched skin and weaker abdominal muscles. These changes can last long after the pregnancy weight has gone. Recovery starts with rest, nutrition and gentle core work, as we explain in our guide to losing postpartum belly fat.

Before starting any body treatment, check with your doctor or midwife about timing and whether you have any abdominal separation.

How do you lose love handles?

Love handles are fat under the skin on the flanks, which the body mobilises more slowly than visceral fat, so they can stay even when you train regularly. A non-surgical treatment works directly on the area, without surgery or recovery time. At REDUCTIVA, the protocol for the flanks and abdomen is the same for men and women.

Cellulite treatment: what actually works?

Cellulite is very common: it appears in most women after puberty, mainly on the buttocks and thighs (Friedmann et al., Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology, 2017). Its appearance depends mainly on the bands of fibrous tissue that connect the skin to the layers below, as well as on fat and skin firmness (Bass and Kaminer, Dermatologic Surgery, 2020). That is why one approach on its own rarely changes it. REDUCTIVA works on the appearance of cellulite in the same session that works on fat, skin and tone. Read more about our cellulite treatment.

Is non-surgical fat reduction effective?

It depends on what you want to change. Non-surgical fat reduction is designed for specific areas, not for overall weight loss. Most treatments use one technology for one concern: fat freezing for fat, radiofrequency for skin firmness, muscle stimulation for tone. If only one of these has changed, one technology may be enough. If fat, loose skin and lower tone have all changed in the same area, which is common after pregnancy and from your 40s, treating only one leaves the others as they were. Results vary from person to person.

How does a REDUCTIVA session work?

Each session lasts 45 minutes, combines three technologies and can cover the whole body.

  • Radiofrequency: delivers controlled heat into the deeper layers of the skin and tissue.
  • Neurostimulation: uses electrical impulses to produce controlled muscle contractions.
  • Bioactive Therapy: a needle-free technology that delivers active ingredients into the skin.

Together, they work on stubborn fat, skin firmness and muscle tone in a single session, adapted to your personalised plan.

Is RF better than CoolSculpting?

They do different things. CoolSculpting is a brand of cryolipolysis, often called fat freezing, which cools fat cells and focuses on fat. Radiofrequency delivers heat into the deeper layers of the skin and is mainly used for firmness.

If more than one of these matters to you, a combined session works on them in one appointment.

Body contouring for men

The protocol, session length and treatment areas are the same for men and women. Muscle loss affects men too: an MRI study of 468 men and women found that the proportion of muscle starts to decline in early adulthood, and that the loss becomes more noticeable around the age of 50 (Janssen et al., Journal of Applied Physiology, 2000). Many men focus on the abdomen and love handles, where stubborn fat and lower muscle definition tend to appear together. And 45 minutes fits into any working day.

Is body contouring safe?

Radiofrequency and neurostimulation are established non-invasive technologies, and Bioactive Therapy is needle-free. There is no anaesthesia and no recovery time.

Before booking, tell us about any medical condition, pregnancy, pacemaker or metal implants. At your welcome session, your specialist will confirm whether the treatment is right for you.

  • Do you speak English?

Yes. Our team speaks English and several other languages at our centres in Barcelona and Sant Cugat, so your welcome session, your Complete Body Study and every treatment session can be in English. You can also book online in English.

  • Which non-surgical fat reduction is best?

It depends on what has changed. If it is only fat, a fat-focused treatment may be enough. If there is also loose skin or lower muscle tone, which is common after pregnancy and from your 40s, a treatment that works on all three in one session covers more than one concern at a time.

  • How much is body contouring in Barcelona?

It depends on the treatment and how many sessions you need. At REDUCTIVA, you start with a welcome session, which includes the Complete Body Study, a personalised plan and your first full session. Your plan is set there, based on your body and your goals.
